Yes, a giving a short speech at your stag do has now become a “thing”. In years gone by, a stag do or bachelor party was a typically simple affair – a few drinks the night before the wedding. It’s now often a weekend break at home or abroad. So, as the groom you might feel the need to express a few words of thanks. Here are some ideas.

Travelling

You could joke about people using their passport for the first time or learning how trains or planes work. Is someone likely to have turned up with luggage for a week-long holiday? Will someone else just turn up with a spare pair of socks and a toothbrush?

You can thank your Best Man for planning it all like a military campaign. Then continue the theme to talk about casualties and awards for bravery (perhaps shots taken).

You’ve got off lightly

Even if you’ve been taken white-water rafting, you could play on the idea it could have been much more life-threatening such as snowboarding in Antarctica, abseiling down the Grand Canyon or going to a Wetherspoon’s (notorious pub chain in the UK).

• Best Performer in an Action Sequence (someone who fell out of/into something)
